The Suspect of Pre-installed Pinhole Cameras in

Motel Has Been Detained and Right of Comminication While in Custody Has Been Prohibited

Pre-installed pinhole cameras were found in a motel in SiaoGang District, Kaohsiung City. While the news went viral on the social media, the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office immediately launched an investigation by Head Prosecutor WUN-HONG SONG and prosecutor RUO-PING GAN, jointly with Kaohsiung City Police Department (KCPD) SiaoGang Precinct and Criminal Investigation Crops Technology Team. After a thorough investigation, suspect HUANG was caught on June 13, 2022. With a search warrant, KCPD seizured one pair of sessors, one electric drill, one USB adapter and three cellphones in HUANG’s house. The interrogation conducted by Prosecutor GAN showed that HUANG has violated Criminal Law Article 315-1 (offense against privacy) and Personal Data Protection Act Article 41. Prosecutor GAN then made a request to the court to detain HUANG for the risk that evidence may be destroyed, fabricated, or altered. The court has granted the request.

Via previous accommodations in the motel, HUANG installed pinhole cameras in this March, April, and May. He used electric drills, sessors and black water-proof taps to install pinhole cameras in 3 different rooms to peep at, eavesdrop on and record other motel guests’ non-public activities, and to illegally collect their personal data regarding features and sexual lives. The motive for committing the crime and the number of victims is still being determined.
