Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office, Qiaotou District Prosecutors Office Jointly convened the second recall meeting on election bribery and investigation violence, and stressed that the prosecutors and the police will strictly enforce the law to safeguard democracy and the rule of law.

To prevent illegal activities happening in the upcoming Kaohsiung mayor recall vote, the chief prosecutors of Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office Zhuang, Rong-Song(莊榮松), and the chief prosecutors of Qiaotou District Prosecutors Office, Hong Shen- Syu(洪信旭), presided over the second recall meeting on election bribery and investigation violence at 11:30 am today (May 28) at Kaohsiung City Police Department station. Officials of the Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau Kaohsiung District Division and Kaohsiung City Police Department were invited to attend the meeting. The chief prosecutor of the Kaohsiung Branch, Taiwan High Prosecutors Office, Yang Jyh-Yeu(楊治宇), also attended the meeting. During the meeting, except to hear the report from the police, coping strategies were also studied to strike various illegal acts that may occur during the voting period.

Zhuang said at the meeting, “The law enforcement will be strict and unbiased to eliminate lawlessness. Prosecutors will support the police to maintain orderly voting. We call for people to stay rational, and to not challenge the law.” Zhaung also stressed that to vote to remove elected officials from office is the constitutional right of the people, and no violence or any illegal methods are allowed to interfere with the vote. Prosecutors will fully investigate offenders. If there are any acts of obstructing or disturbing the voting process, the prosecutor will spare no effort to crack down.

Also, Yang stressed his expectations that the prosecutors and the police should cooperate with each other to ensure the smooth process of voting, and to prevent the irrational act occuring.

Before the election, the two chief prosecutors and prosecutors stationed in related police branch offices have successively gone to their respective areas to obtain information, to make strike plans, and to express their gratitude to the police for their hard work in the hope of a smooth voting process.

The authorities have fully implemented necessary precautions and measures, and will strictly and neutrally enforce the law to prevent illegal activities from happening. Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office and Qiaotou District Prosecutors Office jointly call for people to stay peaceful, rational, respectful of different political ideas and choices, in order to build a democratic society under the rule of law.
