Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office bust vote bribery Days earlier, Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office received tip-offs of vote buying in Fengshan electoral district, prosecutor CHENG,I-HSIUNG (鄭益雄)was appointed by the chief prosecutor LI,MEN-CHIEN (李門騫) to lead the police and investigators as a task team to look into this case. The task team on October 9 executed search warrant on a spot in Kaohsiung Fengshan district, and 13 suspects and witness were summoned for questioning. After questioning, it is found that a former neighborhood chief was suspected of shelling out NT$500 to purchase a vote on behalf of a city councilor candidate. 10 local eligible voters who were called in for questioning all confessed that they were given money in exchanged for their votes. Some voters have returned the bribe money. Though this former neighborhood chief was strongly suspected of committing election bribery crime, considering that he has confessed the crime and his age and health condition, prosecutors found that custody was not necessary and decided to release him on bail of NT200,000. As for voters who received the bribery were all allowed to return home. The task team will continue to dig out the accomplice and trace the source of the money.
