On February 5, administrative deputy minister of MOJ Chang Tou-Hui(張斗輝)、the chief prosecutor of Taiwan High Prosecutors Office Wang Tien-Sheng(王添盛)、the chief prosecutor of Taiwan High Prosecutors Office, Kaohsiung Branch Yang, Jyh-Yeu(楊治宇)、the chief prosecutor of Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office Chou Chung-Chin(周章欽)and the chief prosecutor of Qiaotou District Prosecutors Office Wang, Chun-Li(王俊力)jointly hosted the unveiling ceremony at the digital evidence collecting center at Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office, the chief prosecutor of Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office Chou Chung-Chin(周章欽) led head prosecutors, prosecutors and other administrative staff to attend the ceremony and the head prosecutor of Qiaotou District Prosecutors Office LI,TING-HUI(李廷輝)was invited to attend this ceremony. The chief prosecutor of Taiwan High Prosecutors Office Wang Tien-Sheng(王添盛)addressed that we now live in an era of technology, criminals seldom use traditional communications devices, instead, they prefer cyber communications software such as LINE, WECHAT. These digital communications devices cause the authorities face some difficulties in investigating. As a result, it is an important topic to come up with a solution to obtain these digital information as evidence in investigation. Last year, Taiwan High Prosecutors Office integrated the prosecutorial, police, investigation, military, coast guard and customs authorities as a team to combat drug crimes. The performance was strikingly good that the prosecutorial authorities got extra budget from Executive Yuan to be able to build digital evidence collection centers, hoping that can help crack down on drugs, fraud, transnational crimes better. The national drug database set up by Taiwan High Prosecutors Office employ analyses of big data to facilitate relevant case management, crime investigation and was used to assist several nationwide anti-drug combats. The results were remarkable, yet, due to the advancement of new technology, the new digital tools used by criminals made the investigation more difficult. Thus, Taiwan High Prosecutors Office pushed the regional prosecutorial authorities to build digital evidence collecting center. Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office is the first to accomplish the goal. This establishment enables the authorities to access the digital material in investigation, enlarge the drug data and analyses, which would be a great help to track drugs to the source and raise the conviction rate. It will also assist Qiaotou District Prosecutors Office、Pingtung District Prosecutors Office and Penghu District Prosecutors Office on digital evidence collecting. Facing the challenge brought by the digital evidence and information in investigation, Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office will make use of this digital evidence collecting center to combat drug crimes.
