Chairman of Yu-Zong Foods Co. Ltd. for using expired ingredients and material The famous snack manufacturer Yu-Zong was under investigation led by chief prosecutor Su and prosecutor Jen. Now Chairman Hung of Yu-Zong, Factory Director Su, vise Factory Director Liao and Purchase Manager Hsieh were accused of Fraud and violating the Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation. Yu-Zong is the manufacturer of popular snack Hsia Wei Hsien Shrimp Chips. Yet chairman Hung, Factory Director Su, vice Factory Director Liao and Purchase Manager Hsieh started using expired materials of bonito extract powder, red yeast rice powder from May 2014. These materials are used to make four flavors of Hsia Wei Hsien Shrimp Chips including kimchi, smoky, teriyaki, grilled squid, and another product under the company’s affiliated enterprise -germinated soy powder. The proceeds of the crime are estimated up to 25,480,120 NTD. Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office instructed the raid on the Factory of Yu-Zong in Dailiao. Investigation Bureau Kaohsiung, alongside with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Department of Health in Kaohsiung raided the Dailiao factory on 17. May and found and seized 161.5 kilograms of expired ingredients mentioned above. Later on Hung was released on bail of 5 million NTD after interrogation by prosecutor. Su and Hsieh were released on bail of 300 thousand NTD. The five mentioned products were removed from shelves by Department of Health Kaohsiung.
