Premier Lin Chuan commends Kaohsiung District prosecutors and law enforcement officials for the biggest heroin bust The chief prosecutor Tseng ching ya(曾靖雅), prosecutors Hsu yu chuan(許育銓), Wu cheng chung(吳正中), Lin heng tsui(林恆翠) led investigators, the police and coast guard officers to intercept a fishing boat 12.5 nautical miles southeast of Wuqiu(烏坵) Island at around 5:32 am on May 25 as it was trying to smuggle drugs into Taiwan. A total of 1,800 bricks of heroin with a combined weight of 693kg were found on the boat. The value of the heroin is estimated to be worth NT10 billion. Five people aboard the vessel, including the captain, were arrested. After interrogations, prosecutor applied for a detention order from the court for this five accused all strongly suspected of having committed drug trafficking crime and there were facts sufficient to justify an apprehension that the five accused might abscond and conspire with co-offenders or witnesses. To commend the team who took part in this nation’s largest heroin seizure to date, Premier Lin chuan, along with other government officials, came to Kaohsiung District prosecutors’ office and present fruit gift box as tribute. In the meantime, prosecutor Hsu yu chuan(許育銓)gave a brief on this case, elaborating the process of this drug smuggling seizure.
