Company Owner charged for using industrial lime in Winter Melon Tea
Owners of a beverage company in JenWu. ChiuIn Ju and ChinHong Yang, accompanied four staffs used industrial lime in producing Winter Melon Tea from March 2014 to October 2016. According to Article 15 in Act of Governing Food Safety and Sanitation, food additives should be approved by the central competent authority before being manufactured, processed, prepared, packaged, transported, stored, sold, imported, exported, presented as a gift or publicly displayed. The accused used none-approved industrial lime when boiling winter melon, in order to preserve the winter melon, and therefore reducing the production costs. By using industrial lime without approval the company owners and the employee violated not only the regulation mentioned above, but also committed the crime of fraud. The amount of proceeds of this crime is up to 14,864,640 NTD.
