At 10am on September 16, Kaohsiung Prosecutors’ Office held a press conference in front of the main gates. Its purpose was to enable citizens and companies to stand with prosecutors in opposing electoral fraud and vote-buying in the upcoming local government elections, which will see the largest list of candidates ever. During the activity, local people and enterprises voiced their support for the prosecutors’ initiative. Chief prosecutor RUEI-ZONG CAI(蔡瑞宗), vice director of Kaohsiung City office JHANG-MING LI(李長明)and director general of Kaohsiung City Police Department , MAO-SUI HUANG(黃茂穗)beat the drum together as a symbol of their determination to defend the fairness of the election. Prosecutors and probation officers formed a choir to perform the song ”I am watching you”, to let candidates know that the anti-vote-buying citizen surveillance system is now operational. The climax of the activity was the shooting of a dart emblazoned with the word “bribery”, as a warning to anyone who dares to buy votes that it is impossible to avoid punishment. Chief prosecutor RUEI-ZONG CAI(蔡瑞宗)said that public departments and private companies had united to hold this press conference. He announced that investigations into vote-buying would start immediately. He expressed his hope that this initiative will both raise the quality of voters and ensure that wise and able people are elected. Through these efforts people can feel at ease and society will remain stable. He went on to say that by combining all available resources, everyone will become aware of our determination to stamp out vote-buying.
