Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Investigated Fatal Shooting in Kaohsiung Medical University, The Gunman was Applied to the Court for Detention and Held Incommunicado.
After the incident, the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office immediately formed a task force led by head prosecutor Chen,Yen-Chu and prosecutor Chao,Chi-Cheng, jointly with Kaohsiung City Police Department (KCPD) Sanmin First Precinct, Sanmin Second Precinct ,Criminal Investigation Team and South District of Criminal Investigation Police Office, National Police Agency, Ministry of the Interior . Police officers immediately blocked off the crime scene and collected evidence. The task force identified the suspect as a 57-year-old man surnamed Chu (朱) and arrested him after four hours of the incident. One modified handgun, two magazines and 19 bullets were seized by the police. The suspect was identified as being involved in murder and violation of Controlling Guns, Ammunition and Knives Act . Considering the suspect might attempt to flee and collude with other people potentially involved in the shooting, the prosecutor filed for detention and held incommunicado against the suspect after interrogation.
According to the investigation, the two parties had known each other, and some grievances had led the suspect’s intention to kill the victim surnamed Wang. The suspect shot the victim once in the head and once in the back at Kaohsiung Medical University Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital. Wang was declared dead despite receiving immediate medical treatment. The prosecutor and forensic officer conducted autopsy this morning to determine the cause of death. The prosecutor will keep probing into motivation behind murder, criminal scheme and the source of the handgun. Stuffs of Kaohsiung Association for Victims Support(AVS) had visited family members of the victim. Kaohsiung AVS will also offer legal and necessary financial assistance to family members of the victim.
