Speaker of Kaohsiung City Council on bail of her suspicious embezzlemet

The Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office, AAC the southern investigation office and MJIB Southern Mobile Station held the investigation of the Speaker of Kaohsiung City Council, Mrs. Zeng Li-yan and her for being allegedly suspected of embezzling of assistant subsidies.

On March 18, 2021 the task force searched 15 places included the Coucil Speaker’s office. After interrogated by prosecutors, the Mrs. Zeng was released on bail of 2 million TW dollars, while her sister had been taken into custody. Other suspects were released on bail of 50,000 or 100,000 TW dollars or released without bail.

According to the investigation, the speaker has been a member of the Kaohsiung City Council since December 25, 1999. Her sister had been instructed by her to withdraw, custody and distribute her assistants’ salaries. During her tenure, she and her sister were suspected of using the opportunity of recruiting public assistants to falsely report the list of assistants or reporting low salaries to the Kaohsiung City Council to falsely apply for assistant subsidies. The initial estimated illegal proceeds is more than 3 million TW dollars, and the actual amount of embezzlemet is still calculating.
