Kaohsiung District Prosecutor Liu, Chun-Liang command Criminal
Investigation Bureau seize an international crime syndicate planning to
smuggle drugs to Taiwan in access of airlines.
Through the 2-year course of investigation, police targeted one massive cargo
containing 12 stereo sound systems coming from Vietnam. Police kept close
watch on the drug kingpin and alleged co-conspirators as they tracked the
cargo. The cargo arrived at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport at 3:20 A.M.,
sniffer dogs detected that the stereo sound system were sealed with a
loudspeaker box to conceal more than 229 kilograms of heroin, worth more
than NTD $2 billion. It was the record-breaking largest seizure of heroin in the
past 20 years.
Working on a tip-off that drug smuggling organization conspires airfreight
employees to transport heroin, following surveillance and eavesdrop on
telephone calls, police learned of the alleged drug shipment as agents used a
court-authorized wiretap to listen to 20 numbers phone conversations.
The Kaohsiung and Taoyuang District Prosecutor Office, Aviation Police Office,
Customs Administration Taipei field office, Taipei and New Taipei City Police
Departments worked collaboratively in order to disrupt this multi-drug
smuggling organization and arrest those responsible for dealing heroin in and
around Taiwan.
Agents made 7 arrests connected to the alleged drug trafficking ring, the
kingpin, 2 warehousemen, 3 traffickers and 1 suspected associate.
